CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Flooding this spring in Garden City was no joke.

“Were in the process of emergency mode because our fair is less than 12–weeks away. We have a lot to do and a very short time to do it."

Blue Earth County Fair President Robin Tietz

Roads were washed away, fairgrounds were damaged and even one of the oldest structures in town, an old bridge stretching across the Watonwan River, was completely washed away.

“We had an ice dam at the bridge which caused the river to reroute and then flooded areas, even some different areas that didn’t flood in 2010 flooded here in 2019,” explained Chief Deputy Mike Maurer.
